The Brinton family papers document several generations of the Brinton, Steinmetz, and Ward families, who flourished between 1760-1930 in Pennsylvania and New York. Several members of the family played prominent roles in their communities and included landholders, real estate developers, merchants, Civil War surgeons, medical doctors and professors, missionaries, a minister, an art critic, an anthropologist, lawyers, a judge, an engineer, and several authors.
Hippolyte Dussauce papers
The Hippolyte Dussauce Papers reflect the life and work of the chemist during the years of 1860-1869. The papers include letters of inquiry from chemists, inventors, druggists and others to Dussauce for formulae and advice. Several copy books kept by Dussauce reflect his responses to some of these inquiries. The correspondence section also contains the letters of Henry Carey Baird, Dussauce's publisher, to Dussauce.
Charles Smith papers
The Charles Smith papers consists of 1.6 linear feet of material including a collection of trial notes, letters pertaining to his career as a lawyer and judge, business receipts, papers related to state business, personal letters and bank books, all of which range from 1795 to 1847.
